PlayStation Plus hits 7.9 million subscribers
Sony executives confirmed during an earnings call that the paid service has racked up 7.9 million members (via Games Industry).
The firm didn’t say how many out of those are PS4 owners, however earlier this year Sony CEO Kaz Hirai said exactly half of all PS4 owners had a subscription.
With Sony having sold around 14 million of the next-gen consoles to date, it means around 7 million have paid for the service.
That’s a huge figure, although unlike the PS3, online multiplayer isn’t free on the PS4 so it’s no wonder the new console has sold more subscriptions.
On top of online access, members also get an assortment of free downloadable games, discounts and cloud storage for game saves.
Sony also revealed during the business call that it plans to bring the PlayStation platform to China at some point in 2015.
The firm is apparently taking a "cautious, step-by-step" approach to releasing its consoles in the country, due to its various regulatory complications.
Games consoles were banned in China in 2000, until the ban was lifted in September 2013.
In September Microsoft launched the Xbox One in China where it’s flown off the shelves, shifting more than 100,000 consoles during the first sales week.
