How to Automatically Delete Cookies after Closing a Browser
Since the need for deleting cookies and temporary browsing data is becoming more and more important for smoother PC performance and the need for easily deleting browsing history is also on the rise for privacy reasons, different browsers are coming up with innovative techniques to delete cookies automatically and allow private search.
Temporary solutions
You can delete browser history and cookies occasionally when you want and that is being made easy too. For example, Mozilla has recently come up with the Forget button for Firefox to make it easy to delete recent cookies and web history just at one click. The options are flexible in terms of sessions you want the PC to forget. It gives you three options:
- Delete cookies from last 5 minutes.
- Delete cookies from last 2 hours.
- Delete cookies from the last 24 hours.
However, this is not a permanent solution because every time you need to delete cookies or browsing history you need to remember to click on the button.
A permanent solution
You may be used to flushing cookies every time before shutting down the browser, but why work hard every time if you can get it done automatically? Unless of course, you don’t want to always delete the browsing history or cookies.
Why flush cookies
Getting rid of the cookies from your browsing session helps you avoid the creepy tracking of advertisement companies. Your e-mails and social networking accounts will not be flooded with advertisements if you delete the cookies. You can make your Pc automatically delete the cookies after each working session quite simply. You don’t need any add-ons for this. So here is how you can delete cookies automatically for Chrome, Explorer and Firefox.
For Chrome
Everything has always been pretty simple on Chrome if you know how to go about it:
- Click on the ‘hamburger’ menu at the top right corner.
- Go to ‘Advanced Settings’ under ‘Settings’.
- Go to ‘Privacy’.
- Tap on ‘Content Settings’.
- Under the cookies there you will see the ‘Keep local data till you quit the browser’ option, click it.
- Click on ‘Done’ that appears at the bottom of the window.
There, you are done!
Firefox
The process is similar for Firefox as well:
- Click on the upper right corner ‘hamburger’.
- Go to ‘Options’.
- Click ‘Privacy’.
- There will be a drop down menu under the ‘History’ section where you will find the ‘Use custom settings for History’ option.
- Look for the ‘Keep until’ segment and choose the ‘I close Firefox’ radio button.
- Click on OK.
Again, it’s all OK, you are done.
Internet Explorer
The process to delete cookies on Internet Explorer is a quite different from doing the same on Chrome or Firefox. Here are the steps:
- Click the gear icon that is at the upper right corner of the window.
- Select ‘Internet Options’.
- Click on the ‘General Tab’ to open it.
- There will be a ‘Browsing History’ segment where you will find the ‘Delete browser history on exit’ option.
- Click OK.
This was simple too though a little different. Deleting cookies without having to remember is not so complicated after all.
